Communications Apprentice - Hoosier Farmers Market Association

Hoosier Farmers Market Association—Indiana’s statewide farmers market education nonprofit—seeks a part-time Communications Apprentice for its new initiative Growing Indiana Markets. This apprentice will implement a comprehensive marketing, promotions and communications strategy. Apprentices will also collaboratively design and execute a team project.

 

Responsibilities

  • Generate business-to-business (B2B), and business-to-consumer (B2C) communications;

  • Assemble, populate, and disseminate compelling member and public messages;

  • Draft, revise, and edit collateral for multi-channel distribution;

  • Organize print and electronic messaging templates;

  • Implement integrative social media plan;

  • Manage social media for workshops, events, and conferences;

  • Populate the membership Google Groups;

  • Publicize member resources, incentives and benefits;

  • Disseminate webinar, workshop, event, and conference announcements;

  • Coordinate press releases and Executive Director media appearances;

  • Administer strategic marketing and promotions campaigns;

  • Execute public relations activities to leverage advertising and earned media;

  • Coordinate monthly member webinars and assist in their administration;

  • Document actionable items during webinars, workshops, events, and conferences;

  • Maintain the marketing and promotions dashboard, and update related CRM files;

  • Develop monthly dashboard reports for the HFMA board, staff and membership;

  • Attend one-on-one mentoring meetings and tactical planning sessions; and,

  • Work collaboratively with the Program Manager and apprenticeship team.

Qualifications

Apprenticeships are open to individuals seeking bachelors, masters, or doctorate degrees. We also welcome recent graduates, career transition seekers, and those taking lateral leaps into local food systems. Minimum experience includes 1-3 years of writing, production, design, content editing, recording, and/or publishing. A master’s degree (completed or in progress) is preferred. Ideal candidates have a degree in: journalism, media, new media, radio, communications, marketing, or advertising. Experience in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and WordPress is desirable.

 

For employment consideration, a candidate must:

  • Complete projects independently and in accordance to guidelines.

  • Work collaboratively and harmoniously as part of a diverse team.

  • Adapt well within a social entrepreneurial setting.

  • Submit timely monthly and quarterly reports.

  • Adhere to established processes and procedures.

  • Speak, read and write English at a 10th grade level or higher.

  • Operate knowledgeably in an iOS environment.

  • Be skilled (moderate to advanced) in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.), Google Suite, Drop Box, and CRM systems.

  • Accurately track and document time and course credits accurately.

  • Able to lift 50 pounds, walk continuously for 1 mile, and stand for up to 1 hour.

  • Pass an I-9, background check, and employment verification (U.S. eligibility).

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.

Terms

The Education & Training Apprenticeship is a 20 hour per week (75-80 hours per month) commitment for four-months (120 days). Apprenticeships are eligible for course credit, and upon successful completion can be renewed beyond a single semester through December 31, 2019. Primary work site is our downtown office. Additional site locations include co-working spaces, service organizations, farms, and farmers markets. Position requires some nights and weekends, and up to 20% in-state travel. Apprentices interact with leadership, peers, customers, and vendors, and are expected to demonstrate professional behavior. Reports to the Executive Director.

Benefits

Apprentices receive a monthly stipend. Additionally, apprentices are provided mentoring, professional development, and more than 50 networking opportunities per semester ($2,500 value). Apprentices enjoy Speak Easy, Co-working Passport, Hoosier Farmers Market Association, and Farmers Market Coalition memberships ($500 value). Apprentices enjoy time off for 12 holidays annually. Reimbursements provided for required travel.

Compensation      $2,000-2,500 stipend + $3,000 fringe benefits
